SHARED WATERS – SAME STANDARDS. BALTIC SEA PARTNERSHIP FOR FUTURE NAVIGATION

Ship navigation is facing a paradigm shift. Full digitalization of charts will help reduce the negative impacts of shipping on the marine ecosystem.

The new standard for ECDIS charts and information, S-100, will be approved by the end of 2024, with the first products available at the beginning of 2026. By 2029, all new-buildings must have an S-100 capable navigation system.

Within the project, we are piloting new products in the Baltic Sea area. These products are produced by seven hydrographic offices around the Baltic Sea, and all feedback gathered from the pilot will be forwarded to the relevant authorities.

Piloting consists of the following scenarios:

  1. S-101, Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC)
  2. S-101 combined with S-102, detailed bathymetric surface (seabed)
  3. All of the above, plus S-104, water level information, and S-111, surface currents
